Our System
Once you decide to train with us, you’ll
begin learning traditional Taekwondo along with a sampling of other styles of
martial arts. Our unique goal-setting system includes essential self-defense
techniques, counter-attacks and evasive tactics that will ultimately enable you
to gain the confidence and self-esteem necessary for self-protection. In
addition, the structured class format will encourage self-discipline and
self-respect, as well as earn you respect from others.
Our system, as a
traditional martial art, not only aims at developing fighting skills and
acquiring the means to self-defense, it also inspires developing a proper
conduct and behavior which
will lead students towards achieving “chung
myung kwon“, the total discipline and development
of the mind, body and spirit.
Taekwondo instills the
need to perfect oneself and to aim for achieving self-appointed goals – as
Master Ro always says, “there’s always room for improvement.” In addition,
Taekwondo also develops and strengthens one’s character, further inspiring the
individual to devoting one’s life to safeguarding justice, respect and
responsibility. The Taekwondo spirit can be better summarized by the philosophy
of “hongik-ingan”
– our translation: respect for humanity, with a
peace-loving spirit, integrity, honor and a strong sense of responsibility.
Though a student’s participation may be for
fitness and fun at the Beginner level (see our Beginner Program),
our system is intended for the serious student training towards advancement to
Black Belt. Training beyond the Beginner level will become more challenging,
both physically and mentally, and will require discipline, patience, commitment
and dedication, as well as self-control. Mater Ro’s credo: “If you can control
your “self”, then you can control any
attacker or situation”. Our program will help you to do just that.
With continued training, you will also be
able to participate in tournaments, demonstrations, seminars and other martial
arts-related activities.
Our Mission is to guide our students towards achieving self-confidence, self-defense, and self-control, while inspiring them towards attaining respect of self, respect of others and responsibility for their actions.
