INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED PROGRAMS

• Intermediate and Advanced Programs are available for adults and children ages 6 and up. We offer afternoon and evening classes. Students may enroll one day, two days, or three days per week. To achieve optimum training results, we recommend that students attend classes at least two days per week. (See our Class Schedule for our current programs.)
• Intermediate Ranks consist of Green, High Green, Blue and High Blue Belt, while the Advanced Ranks consist of Red, High Red, Brown, Candidate-for Black Belt and Black Belt. We offer classes for all these ranks both in the afternoon and in the evening.
• Intermediate and Advanced Ranks may at times be combined. Depending on the number of students enrolled, the class rank divisions may change from session to session. Sometimes it is necessary to mix Novice and Intermediate ranks as well as Intermediate and Advanced ranks. Please see our Class Schedule for the most current class and rank divisions available. We usually have more than one Instructor on hand to instruct the various ranks, and we try to ensure that every rank is "covered".
• Intermediate and Advanced Curriculum - Adding on to Beginner/Novice curriculum, which begins with various techniques designed to improve self-awareness and self-protection, the Intermediate and Advanced curriculum continues with increased intensity in training, discipline and focus on self-defense. Students will gradually be introduced to a more intensive training program that includes counter-attacks, evasive tactics and fighting techniques, all designed to improve confidence and “street smarts”. With continued commitment and dedication to training, students will move up through the Intermediate and Advanced Programs, and eventually will attain Black Belt status.
• Placement of students in certain classes is determined by the Instructors. At times, depending on the number of students and/or ranks enrolled in each class, it may be necessary to move students from one class to another. Please be assured that this is done to achieve the best possible training situation for all the students.
• Absences from class may result in the delay of promotion. Obviously, the number of lessons a student attends determines the amount of training and practice needed for promotion. Students returning after an extended leave of absence of six months or longer may be required to attend their previous rank class, in addition to their previous rank class, until they've reinforced and reviewed their previous requirements.
• Do-Baks are mandatory for all Intermediate and Advanced students. Intermediate students must wear a complete Do-Bak, which consists of white jacket and pants, white or black school tee shirt, rank belt and school patch. Advanced students, Red Belt and up, may wear either a white or black Do-Bak, with either a black or white school tee shirt. Black Belts may wear mixed top and bottoms as well as Demo Team uniforms, and a black or red RIT school tee shirt. Students coming to class out of uniform will be asked to stand in line after the lowest rank. Do-Baks and other apparel may be purchased from our school at discounted prices (see Uniforms & Gear.)
• Sparring Equipment - Students must have the following mandatory gear in order to participate in sparring: 1) Head Guard, 2) Mouth Guard, 3) Foot Guards, 4) Shin Guards, 5) Safety Gloves, and 6) Groin Cup (males only). Chest and forearm guards are optional. Sparring Gear, Do-Baks and other apparel are available from our school at discounted prices.
• Tournament participation is a mandatory requirement for all Intermediate and Advanced students because it is an important and integral part of training. Since participants benefit tremendously from the tournament experience, it is important that our Intermediate and Advanced students attend at least one tournament per year. Otherwise, they risk being passed up for promotion until they have met their tournament commitment. • Promotion Tests are offered approximately every two to three months, although students are usually tested about three times per year. The rank requirements understandably become more difficult with advancement. Students should be aware that their level of commitment must increase accordingly. As with the novice ranks, learning new requirements, or attending the requisite number of lessons, does not mean preparedness for advancement in rank; students must also be geared up to train at the next level and be able to keep up with higher belts. • Student Manuals are required in class every day along with the sparring gear. Students (and parents) should read everything carefully. We also urge parents to take interest in their child's training – they should ask about what they have learned or if they need help with practicing - this may encourage a more serious commitment, thereby achieving greater success. Test certificates and awards should be proudly displayed at home, not in the Student Manual!
